FIRST NIGHT LIVE

First Night Burlington celebrates its 33rd year of the citywide, substance-free party of nearly 100 stage shows, musical acts, and arts activities in 18 venues to kick off the new year. First Night St. Johnsbury celebrates 23 years of music with 56 different shows by over 200 artists. A number of performers are from Franklin County or are local favorites. Read more

Most libraries in Franklin County will at least close early today and will be closed tomorrow. The St. Albans Library will be closed all day today plus tomorrow, Friday, and December 31 as well as January 1, 2015. There will be no story hour today, Saturday, or December 31 in Swanton. Read more

Books from area writers make wonderful Christmas presents. The Eloquent Page will host book signings with Debra A. Adams and Ilamae Lund. Santa and the Bookmobile will be around the county. FESTIVAL OF TREES

The Festival of Trees is pure poetry: artists, businesses, residents, students, churches and more have created Christmas trees and donate them. Each tree is auctioned at the popular Friday night gala. The theme of the Festival this year is, “It’s All About the Lake.” The Contois School of Music Band, Chris and Erica, Calloway Taxi, Coon Hill John, the Vermont Choral Union, and more will fill the Bliss Room with music. The Lake Champlain Art Show showcases art about the lake. Read more

The Artist In Residence Gallery features photographers Cassy McDonough and Frank McDonough and painters Natalie La Rocque (Bouchard), Pat Murphy, and Martha Ohliger in the a free meet-the-artists reception. Read more

On Tap has Blues Night with the Nobby Reed Project. Twiggs presents Close to Nowhere and Justin Panigutti. The 23rd annual Vermont International Festival will showcase the diversity of arts, crafts, food, dance, and music. River Arts presents its Festival of Lights and live music. The Music Box features the Missisquoi River Band. The Opera House at Enosburg Falls rings in the holiday spirit with the traditional Christmas Concert. Read more
