Groundhog Day screens. Bird Tales and February Fools, plus Nobby Reed twice, The Duel, Third Shift, the Phil Abair Band, Mackenzie & Missisquoi, and the Tim Brick Band all come to the stage. Winterfest has fire dancers, music, stories, and more. Paint Your Pet helps Franklin County Animal Rescue. There is a voice-over workshop and a call for the tenth annual Festival of the Arts. The April Verch Band, Patti Casey, Jon Gailmor, Green Mountain Playboys, Young Tradition Touring Group, Carol Ann Jones and Jon Sochin, the Ghost Of Paul Revere plus Troy Millette, Arthur James, O’hAnleigh, Shake the Band, and the VYO all perform. We’ll see commemorative art, try a Family Paint and Sip and a Handmade Ornament Exchange. Terry Rice, Deborah Shell, Sally Tarr, Wayne Tarr, and Trine Wilson hang around on different walls. The Second Friday Dance Social cha cha cha. There is a community arts meeting and three Christmas plays. The Nobby Reed Project, the Carol Ann Jones Quartet, AmerikanaBlue, Cooie & Skip, the Shane Murley Band, plus an open mic, a song and celebration, and Northern Exposure all on stages. Steve Boal, Patrick Murphy, Shanna Ratner, Pam Krout-Voss and David J. Griggs exibit. Viva Las Artes! has wine, food, and an auction. Swanton’s Got Art and there is Pimp My Pint. The Swanton Arts Council board meets. It’s Vermont vs. Hollywood on screen. The Nobby Reed Project, Chris & Erica, the Bob Mackenzie Blues Trio, Jamie Lee Thurston, the Johnny Cash Tribute Show, the Gibson Brothers and the Vermont Bluegrass Pioneers all have gigs. The Advance Singer/Songwriter Contest and an Open Mic take stages. There’s a public hearing on Vermont’s most pressing rural issues. And there are books. Continue reading →

It’s the last full day of Summer. There are three Paint and Sip style events. Arts Council meetings, and a toe-tapping good Contra Dance. The Austin Piazzolla Quintet, Jenni Johnson and the Jazz Junketeers, Bethany Conner & Friends, and the Bob Mackenzie Trio, Roy and the Wrecks, the Robin Gottfried Band, Carol Ann Jones with Will Patton, the Bandade Fall Tour, Isaac French with Michael Brewster, Tony Whedon, Dawn Reno Langley, and Janis Raffauf Hess all take the stage. Twiggs has comedy. We have calls for NW Nightmares, the TAM over 60 Art Competition, and the Endangered Fine Art and Photography Contest. And book reports, too. Continue reading →
