Artbits-November 25, 2015
The arts have touched all of our lives all year, with benefits and friendship and glorious exhibits and performances grand and small. Artist Fred Swan will be in town. SAC has an Open Art Studio. The Citizen Concert Band Christmas Concert, Coon Hill John, and Vern Colburn are all on stage. Writers Tammy Flanders Hetrick and Liz Conforti will sign books. Swanton Arts Council has a busy month. The St. Albans Historical Museum and 14th Star Brewery have an Oktoberfest fundraiser. Irene Lewis has a solo show. Lots of news from the Swanton Arts Council. We have Vermont Day at the Big E and an Open Mic, plus Paul Asbell, Sean Casey, Isaac and Dominic French, the Mountains Says No, Black Rabbit, the Nobby Reed, the Starline Rhythm Boys, and more. Summer Sounds Benefit Music Festival
Summer Sounds got its start 25 years ago when our then-Town Manager came to me with $200 and said “Let’s have some concerts!” You can’t put on a major concert series for 200 bucks, so I conned, er, invited most of the local businesses to kick in and it started a plan and a series. The plan was for the municipalities to underwrite the series and for local businesses to sponsor each concert. We encourage local nonprofits to “host” each concert with a social to show the flag and earn a few bucks for their own causes. 25 years later we had a little benefit event to celebrate.
