October is National Arts and Humanities Month. The Opera House presents The Nerd. Jenni Johnson and Friends, Carol Ann Jones, Nobby Reed, Paul Reiser, Will Patton, Deja Nous, Isaac and Dominic French, Vermont Has Talent, and a songwriting workshop are all on stage somewhere. We have calls for the Tapped exhibit, the juried Craftys Awards, Swanton Arts Council, and the Portrait Society of America. Teen Read Week begins Sunday. The Highgate Public Library has stories x 2 and St. Albans Free Library wants you for all day. Continue reading

Jason Bates and David Stromeyer have a Walking Conversation. Artists and arts events include Mary Harper, Steve Boal, Jan Brosky, and Elizabeth Martin, Artists Uncorked, the Taylor Park Fountain, a Plein Air Painting Festival, Rocktoberfest, and Open Studio Weekend. Summer Sounds Benefit Music Festival

Summer Sounds got its start 25 years ago when our then-Town Manager came to me with $200 and said “Let’s have some concerts!” You can’t put on a major concert series for 200 bucks, so I conned, er, invited most of the local businesses to kick in and it started a plan and a series. The plan was for the municipalities to underwrite the series and for local businesses to sponsor each concert. We encourage local nonprofits to “host” each concert with a social to show the flag and earn a few bucks for their own causes. 25 years later we had a little benefit event to celebrate. Artbits–September 17, 2015

It is still summer and time for one more Big Music Weeks of Summer! The 25th anniversary Summer Sounds Benefit Music Festival brings out the star power with Jenni Johnson and the Jazz Junketeers, Jon Gailmor, incaHOOTs, Keeghan Nolan, the Sky Blue Boys, the Summer Sounds singers, and more. This is a benefit concert to help programming at Camp Ta-Kum-Ta and to build a band shell in Highgate. Justice keeps their rock On Tap, Missisquoi River Band plays Summer Music at Grace and The Stage. Twiggs has Coon Hill John and Close to Nowhere. The Opera House wants a Check, Please!
